Doe lets you upload files to analyze in conversations or manage them in your central library. Ask questions about contracts, run calculations on spreadsheets, or extract insights from reports.

Supported File Types

Doe supports 9 file formats with a 50MB maximum file size:
  • Documents: PDF (.pdf), Word (.doc, .docx), Text (.txt), Markdown (.md, .markdown)
  • Spreadsheets: Excel (.xls, .xlsx), CSV (.csv)
  • Data: JSON (.json)
All files are validated for type and size before upload. Files over 50MB will be rejected.

Where to Upload Files

In Chat Conversations

Upload files directly into any chat to analyze them with questions. Files stay attached to that conversation. How to upload:
  • Click the paperclip icon in the chat input
  • Drag and drop files into the chat window
  • Upload multiple files at once
Best for: Quick analysis, one-off questions, conversation-specific context

In the Library

  • Bulk upload multiple files simultaneously
Best for: Organizing files, team sharing, files you’ll reference frequently

How File Upload Works

When you upload a file, Doe:
  1. Validates the file type and size (50MB limit)
  2. Uploads the file to secure cloud storage
  3. Creates a database record with metadata
  4. Generates a preview for supported file types
All files are stored securely with encrypted storage. Access is controlled through permissions, and download links expire after 1 hour for security.

Performance Features

The Library includes optimizations for smooth performance:
  • Smart caching: Frequently accessed files load instantly
  • Background preloading: First 20 files load automatically
  • Lazy loading: Files load as you scroll
  • Automatic cleanup: Memory is freed when previews close
For large spreadsheets, ask about specific sheets or columns first: “In the Sales Data sheet, show me revenue by month”

Common Questions

Check the file size (must be under 50MB) and format. Supported types: PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, Text, Markdown, JSON. Try a different browser if issues persist.
Files uploaded in chat conversations stay with that chat. To use a file across multiple chats, upload it to the Library instead—then you can reference it anywhere.
Chat uploads are attached to specific conversations. Library uploads are available across all chats and can be organized, shared, and managed centrally.
In the Library, click the share icon on any file. Enter team member emails or share with your entire organization. They’ll receive an email notification and can view/download the file.
No, only the file owner can delete files. If a file is shared with you, you can view and download it, but deletion is restricted to the owner.
Files remain available indefinitely unless deleted by the owner. Files in chat conversations persist with that chat. Library files stay until manually deleted.
